It is never too early (or too late) to get your brain into shape!
There are lots of small positive steps you can take to reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
What's good for your heart is good for your brain
The brain uses 20% of our body's energy! Keeping our hearts pumping and the blood moving is essential to deliver our brain the oxygen and nutrients it needs.
Exercise and eating healthily are two easy ways to help our hearts and minds!
- Hop off the bus one stop early and pick up the pace on your way home
- Beat the beige - add colour to your everyday with more fruit and vegetables
- Put on some tunes and have a kitchen disco

Stay connected
Loneliness and social isolation are big risk factors for dementia.
Reaching out and staying connected with friends and family, either in person or by phone, will help keep you connected to them, and your brain cells connected to one another.
- Call a friend for a chat when you get home
- Invite your neighbour round for a cuppa
- Say “hi” to the person sat next to you

Playing mind games
Neuroplasticity is the constant strengthening and weakening of the connections between our brain cells. It helps us learn new skills and remember what we’re doing.
Exercising our minds and keeping these processes active benefits our brains in the same way that physical exercise benefits our bodies.
- Do a crossword
- Download a puzzle app
- Read a book
